Matthew 11-13

Scripture - Matt 12:34-36 For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

Observation - Jesus is reminding the Pharisees of the power of the spoken word. He goes on to say that every idle word spoken will be judged. Jesus is wanting them to know that what they allow to come out of their mouths has already been birthed in their heart. He was talking about how they were evil people and how could they possibly be expected to speak good things. But those that have been redeemed - should allow the tree to bear good fruit by allowing the good things to be spoken from their lips.

Application - Speak the good things that have transformed in your heart. Too often we allow the heart to be converted but we don't ever transform the speech to emulate what it in the heart. Often what is coming out of the mouth is more of an indicator of what is going on inside that anything else. When we see the mouth speaking the good things of God we know that a transformation has taken place in the heart. As disciples of Christ we must allow the tree to bear good fruit and speak the good things of God.
Prayer - Father help us all to speak the good things that you have done in our heart. Let us be a tree bearing good fruit.
